Goldenrod’s Guide for Small Business Saturday

Let’s face it, buying local rules. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of investing in your community and supporting people’s passions. As a local business ourselves, we’re firmly behind the idea of shopping small. Some of our staff put together a guide on why shopping small is so awesome and the places you won’t want to miss.

Angela (Our trusty captain)

Where you should go: It’s so hard to choose! Paper Kite, Select Style, and Pattino Shoes – I love my neighbors! For eating + drinking small, you can’t miss The Hub Café or Bin 105.

Why I love shopping small: It’s like ‘Cheers’ – everyone knows your name! I love being able to walk into a store and feel like I’m home, and the people running things know what I love and will take good care of me.

Owning a small business: My heart seriously overflows when I think about my store. We get to build this tiny community within our larger Lincoln community – both with our customers and with our Goldensquad. We’re all family.

Where you should go: It’s truly a challenge to walk into Stella Collective without buying something. After you shop ’til you drop, Sips & Subs is one of my favorite go-to’s for lunch.

Why I love shopping small: Being able to give back to my community by supporting these businesses makes my heart so happy. They’re such wonderful people!

Where you should go: Modern Vintage is a must. Leanne is incredibly nice and helpful whenever I visit. The Bay just opened up their coffee shop, too. It’s super tasty, and they give back to the community through their youth programs.

Why I love shopping small: I think it’s really important to put money into the local economy. Since I work at a small business, that’s what sustains my job, so I want to help support others, too.

Where should you go: My favorite local shop is definitely Paper Kite. Unique, great finds for my kiddo, that you can’t find anywhere else. They’re also the friendliest crew.

Why I love shopping small: The best part about shopping local is how small businesses strive to provide hands-on customer service. They tend to create that relationship that makes your shopping experience personable and always memorable. Also, by supporting you favorite local business, it keeps money within the community and enhances the local economy, making your neighborhood that much better. (praising hands emoji)

Where you should go: I love Home & Closet. They have everything from carefully curated second-hand clothes to adorable home decor to a variety of potted succulents. The selection is wonderful. I really appreciate living in the same neighborhood as them!
